Dr.Osama
Dr. Osama Hamed graduated from medical school at the University of Jordan after achieving the highest honors in his secondary high school. His journey in surgery had begun by pursuing his surgical training in the United States where he finished his General Surgery Residency in Cincinnati Ohio. From there on, he earned two 2 fellowships, a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and a fellowship in Liver, Pancreas, and Gastrointestinal Tumors Surgery from Penn State University in Hershey Pennsylvania.
His career in Jordan began by joining the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) Department of Surgery as a Consultant in Surgical Oncology and Minimally Invasive Surgery. This had established him in a busy Hepatopancreatobiliary and GI oncology practice, where he pioneered the introduction of advanced minimally invasive surgery for all kinds of GI malignancies at KHCC.
Currently Dr. Hamed is the director of Specialized Gastrointestinal, Liver, Pancreas and Bariatric Surgery Clinic in Amman, he is a part-time lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Jordan’s Faculty of Medicine, a lecturer at the Teaching Faculty for General Surgery Residency Program at Specialty Hospital, as well as a visiting surgeon at the American Specialty Clinics in Muscat, Oman.
Dr. Hamed is a member at the HPB surgery board committee for the Jordan Medical Council. Dr Hamed is a founding member of the Jordan chapter of the American College of surgeons, and he has served as the first secretary of the chapter and currently he is the Governor of Jordan Chapter and the youngest member of the board governor of the American College of Surgeons. During his time the ACS Jordan chapter had performed multiple successful regional and local events that included successful jeopardy competitions among surgery residents.
His contribution and efforts towards a bettered surgical education in Jordan has granted him a distinguished seat as an Associate Member in the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, one of the most prestigious surgical education societies in the world. Additionally, Dr. Hamed’s main and keen interest is in the application of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Complex GI Oncology and multidisciplinary management of Colorectal Liver Metastasis, Bariatric Surgery with special focus on revisional procedures and surgical treatment of type II Diabetes Mellitus.
He has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and is also a member of the Middle East and North Africa National Comprehensive Cancer Network MENA-NCCN for the colon cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma committees. He is a founding and council member of the Jordan Obesity Society.
