About Dr. Osama Hamed
Dr Osama Hamed, MD, FACS is an American Board-Certified Surgeon and director of Specialized GI, Liver, Pancreas and Bariatric Surgery Center (SGBC). He specializes in colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.
He completed his residency in General Surgery at Cincinnati Ohio, followed by a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Maryland. He then earned a fellowship in Liver, Pancreas and Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, one of the best universities in this specialty.

It is well-known that cancer is a leading cause for death worldwide, and we also know that the prevalence of obesity has more than doubled during the past generation. People who are obese have a greater risk of developing and dying from several types of cancer including malignancies of breast, pancreas, colon and rectum. Bariatric Surgery was found to have a protective effect in lowering the risk of cancer.
